Spoken English Language Syllabus

This syllabus divided into three progressive stages: 

Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced

The syllabus focuses on Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Grammar, and Vocabulary to ensure a comprehensive learning experience.


Course Objectives:

1. Build confidence in speaking English fluently.

2. Develop listening, reading, and writing skills.

3. Strengthen grammar and expand vocabulary.

4. Improve pronunciation and accent.


Month 1-2: Beginner Level

1. Speaking

Basic introductions (self, family, friends).

Common greetings and expressions.

Asking and answering simple questions.

Role-plays: Ordering food, shopping, and giving directions.


2. Listening

Understanding simple conversations.

Listening to beginner-level audio (daily routines, greetings).

Identifying keywords in conversations.


3. Reading

Reading short stories, paragraphs, and dialogues.

Identifying main ideas in short texts.

Understanding signs, notices, and basic forms.


4. Writing

Writing simple sentences (introducing oneself, describing a place).

Sentence structures: Subject + Verb + Object.

Writing informal emails and messages.


5. Grammar

Tenses: Present Simple, Present Continuous.

Articles: A, An, The.

Prepositions: In, On, At.

Basic sentence structure (affirmative, negative, interrogative).


6. Vocabulary

Daily life vocabulary: Food, family, numbers, colors.

Days of the week, months, and time expressions.

Action verbs: Go, do, eat, read, etc.


7. Pronunciation

Pronouncing vowels and consonants correctly.

Word stress in 1-2 syllable words.



Month 3-4: Intermediate Level

1. Speaking

Expressing opinions, likes, and dislikes.

Discussing past experiences and future plans.

Role-plays: Booking tickets, making appointments, and interviews.

Practicing storytelling using pictures.


2. Listening

Listening to short stories, podcasts, and interviews.

Understanding instructions and announcements.

Noting key details from conversations.


3. Reading

Reading news articles, short essays, and narratives.

Understanding factual and inferential details.

Skimming and scanning for information.


4. Writing

Writing paragraphs on familiar topics (travel, hobbies).

Email etiquette: Formal and informal writing.

Writing short letters, stories, and event descriptions.


5. Grammar

Tenses: Past Simple, Future Simple, Present Perfect.

Conjunctions: And, But, Because, So.

Adjectives and Adverbs: Comparatives and superlatives.

Sentence connectors for smoother transitions.


6. Vocabulary

Topic-based vocabulary: Travel, emotions, technology, and weather.

Collocations: Make a decision, take a break, etc.

Idioms and phrases: Break the ice, piece of cake.


7. Pronunciation

Intonation in questions and statements.

Practicing silent letters (e.g., "knife," "honest").



Month 5-6: Advanced Level

1. Speaking

Debating and discussing abstract topics (education, environment).

Giving presentations on prepared topics.

Practicing real-life conversations (negotiations, complaints, persuasion).

Developing spontaneity in speech.


2. Listening

Listening to TED Talks, movies, and interviews.

Understanding different accents and fast speech.

Inferring meaning from tone and context.


3. Reading

Reading novels, editorials, and detailed articles.

Understanding opinions, arguments, and complex ideas.

Analyzing texts for deeper understanding.


4. Writing

Writing essays on social and professional topics.

Creating formal reports and reviews.

Writing resumes and cover letters.


5. Grammar

Tenses: Past Perfect, Conditional sentences.

Passive Voice: Writing reports and formal speech.

Reported Speech: Converting direct to indirect speech.

Advanced sentence structures (complex and compound sentences).


6. Vocabulary

Academic and professional vocabulary.

Phrasal verbs: Look up, get along, break down.

Advanced idioms: Beat around the bush, cost an arm and a leg.


7. Pronunciation

Reducing mother-tongue influence.

Practicing linking sounds in fast speech.

Stress and rhythm in connected speech.



Weekly Activities and Assessments

1. Speaking Activities: Group discussions, role-plays, debates, and storytelling.

2. Listening Practice: Audio comprehension tests, video analysis.

3. Reading Comprehension: Quizzes and summarization exercises.

4. Writing Assignments: Journals, essays, and emails.

5. Grammar Drills: Worksheets and practical usage.

6. Vocabulary Tests: Weekly quizzes on word lists.
