Present Simple Tense

The Present Simple tense is used for actions that are habitual, regular, or facts that are always true.

Usage:

1. Habits and routines (Aadatein aur Rozana Ke Kaam):

(We use the present simple for actions that happen regularly.)

Hum present simple ka istemal aise kaamon ke liye karte hain jo regularly hote hain.

Example:

  • I eat breakfast every day.
  • Main har roz nashta karta hoon.


2. Facts and general truths (Saty / Haqaiq aur Samanaya Satya / Amoomi Haqaiq):

(Use this tense to express facts that are always true.)

Is tense ka use aise facts ke liye hota hai jo hamesha sahi hote hain.

Example:

  • The sun rises in the east.
  • Suraj purab mein ugta hai.


3. Permanent situations:

Present simple is used for things that do not change over time.

Iska use un cheezon ke liye kiya jaata hai jo time ke saath nahi badalti.

Example:

  • She lives in Delhi.
  • Wo Delhi mein rahti hai.

4. Scheduled events (Nirdharit Ghatnayein / Te shuda Waaqiaat):

(Present simple is also used for future events that are scheduled.)

Future ke liye nirdharit ghatnaon / Te shuda Waaqiaat ke liye bhi present simple ka istemal hota hai.

Example:

  • The train leaves at 9 PM.
  • Train raat 9 baje chalegi.


Form:

Affirmative Sentences:

Subject + base verb (+ s/es for he, she, it)

Subject + base verb (+ s/es jab subject ‘he, she, it’ ho)

Example:

  • He plays football. 
  • Wo football khelta hai.


Negative Sentences :

Subject + do/does not + base verb

Example:

  • She does not play football. 
  • Wo football nahi khelti.


Interrogative Sentences :

Do/Does + subject + base verb?

Example:

  • Does he play football? 
  • Kya wo football khelta hai?


Present Continuous Tense

The Present Continuous tense is used for actions that are happening right now or around the present time, or for temporary situations.

Usage:

1. Actions happening now (Abhi ke time ho rahe kaam):

(Use the present continuous for actions that are happening at this very moment.)

Iska use un kaamon ke liye hota hai jo is waqt ho rahe hain.

Example:

  • I am eating dinner right now.
  • Main abhi dinner kha raha hoon.


2. Actions happening around now (Is samay ke aas paas ho rahe kaam):

(Use this tense for actions happening around the present time, even if not right now.)

Is tense ka use un kaamon ke liye bhi hota hai jo iss time ke aas-paas ho rahe hain.

Example:

  • She is studying a lot these days.
  • Wo aajkal zyada padh rahi hai.


3. Temporary situations:

(Use present continuous for temporary or short-term situations.)

Iska istemal temporary situations ke liye hota hai jo lambe time tak nahi chalti.

Example:

  • He is staying with his friend for a week.
  • Wo ek hafte ke liye apne dost ke yaha reh raha hai.


4. Planned future actions (Yojit Bhavishya ke Karya / Future ke Te Sudha kaam):

It can also be used for future plans or arrangements.

Future ke plan kiye gaye kaamon ke liye bhi iska use kiya ja sakta hai.

Example:

  • We are meeting them tomorrow.
  • Hum kal unse mil rahe hain.


Form:

Affirmative Sentences:

Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing

Example:

  • She is playing football. 
  • Wo football khel rahi hai.


Negative Sentences:

Subject + am/is/are not + verb-ing

Example:

  • She is not playing football. 
  • Wo football nahi khel rahi hai.


Interrogative Sentences:

Am/Is/Are + subject + verb-ing?

Example:

  • Is she playing football? 
  • Kya wo football khel rahi hai?


Key Differences (Mukhya Antar / Khaas Differences):

1. Frequency vs. Duration:

  • Present Simple describes actions that happen regularly.
  • Present Simple un kaamon ko batata hai jo aksar hote hain.

  • Present Continuous describes actions that are happening at the moment or temporarily.
  • Present Continuous un kaamon ko batata hai hai jo abhi ya temporary roop se ho rahe hain.


2. Permanent vs. Temporary :

  • Present Simple is used for permanent situations.
  • Present Simple permanent situations ke liye hota hai.

  • Present Continuous is used for temporary situations.
  • Present Continuous temporary situations ke liye hota hai.


3. Future Use:

  • Present Simple can describe scheduled events.
  • Present Simple nirdharit ghatnaon / te Sudha Waaqiaat ko describe karta hai.

  • Present Continuous can describe future plans.
  • Present Continuous future ke plan kiye gaye kaamon ko batata hai.

Examples For Difference:

Present Simple:

  • He works at a bank.
  • Wo bank mein kaam karta hai.(Permanent job, habitual action)

Present Continuous:

  • He is working from home today.
  • Aaj wo ghar se kaam kar raha hai. (Temporary situation, happening now)
