1. Basic Difference between "Fewer" and "Less"

- "Fewer" is used with countable nouns—those that can be counted as individual units (e.g., apples, people, cars).

Example:

Example:

  • Bottle mein kam paani hai.


2. When to Use "Fewer"

"Fewer" is used for things that are countable. This means items that can be separated into individual units.

"Fewer"ka use countable cheezon ke sath hota hai matlab vah item jinko alag Kiya ja sake units mein

Countable Nouns: chairs, books, friends, children

Example:

3. When to Use "Less"

"Less" is used with uncountable nouns. Uncountable nouns are items that can’t be counted separately but are measured in volume or mass.

"Less" uncountable noun ke sath use hota hai uncountable noun voh chizen hoti hain jinko alag kr ke gina na ja sake.

Uncountable Nouns: sugar, water, sand, happiness, patience

Example: 

  • I have less patience than before.
  • Mujhe pehle se kam patience hai.

"Patience" ek uncountable noun hai kyunki isko count nahi kiya ja sakta.


Examples:

  • There is less milk in the fridge.
  • Fridge mein kam doodh hai.

"Milk" ek uncountable noun hai kyunki isko count nahi kiya ja sakta.


Examples:

  • We need less salt in the recipe.
  • Humein recipe mein kam namak chahiye.

4. Special Cases and Exceptions

Measurements of Time, Money, Distance, and Weight: In certain contexts, "less" can be used with nouns that might seem countable but are generally treated as a whole amount.

5. Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

- Using "Less" with countable nouns is a common error. Stick to "Fewer" for individual, countable items.

- Less ko countable nouns ke sath use krna galat hai. Fewer individual, countable items ke use hota hai na ke Less 

Incorrect: Galat 

  • Less people attended the meeting.
  • Less (kam) log meeting mein aaye.

Correct: Sahi 

  • Fewer people attended the meeting.

- Using "Fewer" with uncountable nouns can also be confusing. Remember to use "Less" with bulk or mass nouns.
